What Does TPMS Mean?

tire pressure light

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System uses tire pressure sensors to track the air pressure of your tires. If it senses that one or more of your tires aren’t at the recommended pressure, a warning light on the dashboard will turn on or flash. When this happens, it’s time to add air to your pickup truck. Learn more about the TPMS meaning, and don’t hesitate to contact your local Logan service center for additional information.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System Features

This premium system works to track your tire’s pressure and alerts you once the levels drop too low. Your TPMS dashboard warning light could look like a flat tire with an exclamation point in the middle, or it will illuminate the letters “TPMS.” If you notice that the lights are on, your tires are underinflated, which could cause:

  • Poor traction
  • Decreased load carrying capability
  • A flat tire or blowout
  • Poor fuel economy

Short-term, this can protect you from a potential accident, and in the long run, it helps prevent your tires from wearing out prematurely and even optimize your vehicle’s fuel economy. This system allows you to keep track of your tire pressure during your travels without remembering to check things manually.

Proper Tire Inflation

Over- and under-inflation of tires can ultimately lead to unwanted issues for American Fork-area drivers. A properly inflated tire will do the following:

  • Reduce tread movement, thereby increasing the life of the tire
  • Reduce rolling resistance increases vehicle efficiency
  • Increase water dispersion which decreases the likelihood of hydroplaning

There are several options for filling up your tires:

  • Many gas stations have tire filling areas separate from the pump station.
  • You can take your vehicle to your favorite service center for full tire service.
  • If you need a little more air in your tires quickly, you can even use a bike pump!
